Civics and Citizenship with Rebekha Sharkie MP
I believe civics education is crucial to an informed democracy. I’m available to come to your school to share my knowledge and experience as part of a broader civics and citizenship education program.
School civics visits offer students opportunities to learn about Australia’s system of government, democratic processes and their roles as citizens.
The lessons can be tailored for primary or secondary students.
Parliament and Lawmaking
My visit can include an interactive mock Parliament.
We bring the dress ups and props for a classroom recreation of the House of Representatives.
Up to 45 students can actively participate in our parliament as we debate a relevant bill – either to ban homework or lower the voting age.
We aim to involve all students in an engaging lesson, where they’ll learn how Parliament works, but also have some fun.
Question and Answer Session
How do you become a Member of Parliament? How much do election campaigns cost? What’s the routine of a politician? How do MPs represent so many people? Who decides what’s debated in Parliament?
Students are encouraged to prepare questions to ask about my experience as their representative in Canberra.
