Rebekha secures $200,000 for Blackwood playground

Blackwood Park Boulevard playground at Craigburn Farm is about to embark on a major facelift thanks to a $200,000 Federal grant secured by the Federal Member for Mayo Rebekha Sharkie.

The money, delivered through the direct advocacy of the Centre Alliance MP in recent months, will allow the Mitcham Council to improve the recreation area by building toilets, a water fountain, a sheltered barbecue area and a bike stand with pump and tool station.
The junior play area and nearby walking and cycling paths will also be upgraded.
“Blackwood Park Boulevard playground is a very popular spot and has made a significant contribution to the lifestyles of local families,” Rebekha said.
“Feedback from the community has highlighted the need for improved facilities.
“These facilities would positively support the existing playground and serve to attract even more local families of all ages, as well as visitors, to this much-valued outdoor space.
“A relatively small investment in this area will have a significant positive impact on the local community and will encourage more local residents to get outdoors and participate in a healthier lifestyle.”
Mitcham Mayor Heather Holmes-Ross welcomed the Federal Government announcement.
"This is a fantastic boost for local families and kids, as it will provide community facilities which will complement and enhance the existing playground which the Council owns and will continue to manage and maintain," Dr Holmes-Ross said.
“Thanks to this grant funding, visitors to Treetop Playground will be able to enjoy an improved community space which is accessible to all and help keep us connected.
“The enhancement of the reserve, coupled with the invaluable opportunities to extend the existing playground, provide toilets and improve public access, is a positive outcome for all of our residents."
